Friends’ of the Nevada Southern Railway Meeting (FNSR)

5 March 09

According to Article V, Section 1, of the By-Laws a quorum was present to conduct FNSR business.

Chuck Brandt called the meeting to order at 10:00AM

Carl Friedrichs made the motion to approve the 5 Feb 09 meeting minutes. Seconded by Roger Himka and unanimously approved.

The Treasurer reported that as of 29 Feb 09 we have a balance of $2943.73 in our account.

Standing Committee Reports:

            Training: Frank Lea presented the Operating Instructions for operation of the 97 Railcar. It was decided that a candidate for the Railcar Operators certification must have certification as Car Attendant and be certified as rear brakeman. There will be 16 hours of Railcar operation training and passage of the performance test to become a licensed Railcar Operator. A formal license will be issued for this position.

The first training class for 97 operation will be Tuesday, 10 Mar 09, starting at 8:00AM.

            Restoration: Frank Lea reported that the Restoration Committee had their first meeting on 4 March 09. The committee selected the following as the initial restoration projects.

            RPO Car –Carl Friedrichs will be team leader. Work parties will be the 2nd Wednesday of each month starting at 8:00 AM. A list of work tasks will be posted in the car to permit individuals to work as their schedules permit.

            1855 Painting – Rusty Elliott will be team leader

Other projects will be selected once these projects have been completed. Each team leader will develop project schedules and required tasks.

            Membership: Chuck Brandt reported that we now have 50 members. This includes 18 new general memberships and 2 new volunteers,

Old Business:


            a.         97 Railcar Training: The first training class will be held on Tuesday, 10 March, starting at 8:00 AM. Frank Lea will present the training and conduct the performance test for licensing. See Committee Report above for operator qualification requirements. A complete list of requirements and performance test check list will be added to the crew qualifications document.


            b.        Newsletter: Chuck Brant stated that the first edition of the newsletter has been completed and will be mailed out the week of 9 March 2009.

 

New Business:


            a.         Merchant Account: Chuck Brandt reported that the Merchant Account has been established. This provides the capability to accept credit cards for membership fees. The FNSR brochure will be up dated to reflect this.


            b.        Director’s Report: Greg Corbin stated that there was no new news to report on the proposed State budget and the impact on our operations. The 844 remains out of service while waiting for parts to arrive. The L3 has had a new throttle installed (Sectary’s Note: Take a look at this new throttle. It is a man sized unit for sure.) The repairs on the HEP car generators are continuing. Currently waiting for some parts. Various small projects are underway. A semaphore has been installed in the display area. We have received a set of crossing lights from DOT that will be refurbished and placed in the display area.


Laura Henning reported that we set a new record on Saturday with $2000 in ticket sales and $800 in the gift shop.


Laura and Greg attended First Annual Boulder City Tourism Expo on 19 March where they had a table set up to promote the NSRR. Groups and individuals that attended the Expo indicated interest in having special events such as wine tasting and dinner trains.


Open Discussion Topics:

  

            a.         Roger Himka has received an Email concerning a Hobby Club Expo to be held on 10 April. This could give the FNSR an opportunity for publicity. This will be discussed at the next meeting.


            b.        A round of applause and a heart felt “Thank You” was given to Greg and Laura for the excellent Volunteer Appreciation Day event held last month. A good time was had by all.
