A new attraction is coming to the Museum!

Thanks to Jesse Banning and his crew from JD Locomotive Works, a new 7.5" gauge railroad is currently under construction.  This will operate in the lower parking lot to the south of our main tracks.  Road bed has been graded and tracks are being put down.  The first section will be 500', but eventually the railroad will have over 2,000' of track.

7.5" is the distance between the insides of the rails.  It is also called 1.5" scale, which means that the model is 1.5" long for every 12" length of the full size locomotive.

These are meticulously built and machined so that every part works just like it does on a full scale train!  This is a very large organized hobby, with people traveling all over the country to run their trains on different railroads.

Once the track has been completed, we will have rides on designated weekends, depending upon qualified volunteer availabilty to staff the operation.  We expect this to be a big hit with youngsters, besides atteracting lots of new people to the Museum!

Operation should begin by December 2011 (if enough volunteers pitch in).

Construction has been primarily on Thursdays, but is now scheduled on some weekend days (when enough volunteers are available)
